Draymond Green moves into position for starting All-Star spot

— -- Golden State's Draymond Green has moved into third place in voting for the Western Conference frontcourt, putting him in position to start in the NBA All-Star Game on Feb. 14 in Toronto.

Green is about 1,300 votes ahead of San Antonio's Kawhi Leonard in the closest race for a starting spot.

"My mom called me and said, 'We've got Facebook and Twitter rocking! Like, everybody's voting!'" Green said Thursday, according to the Bay Area News Group.

Kobe Bryant, the leading vote-getter with more than 1.2 million votes, and Kevin Durant are ahead of Green and Leonard among West frontcourt players.

Green put together a streak of three straight triple-doubles that ended Tuesday night at Los Angeles in a win over the Lakers. He was attempting to become the second player in 27 years to post four in a row.

He had already tied the Warriors' record for consecutive triple-doubles, set 56 years ago by Tom Gola.

"Who knows how it finishes out, but just to be at that point right now is pretty amazing," said Green, speaking to media in El Segundo, California, where the Warriors were staying in between their road game against the Lakers and one Friday at Portland. "I don't take it for granted. That's special to me.

"If I can sneak into the game in general, I'm thankful for that. I'm not greedy at all. But just to see the fan appreciation ... I'm thankful for that because all the hard work that goes into this."

Reigning NBA MVP Stephen Curry and Oklahoma City's Russell Westbrook are the leaders among West guards.

LeBron James, Paul George and Detroit's Andre Drummond top the East frontcourt, with Drummond about 5,600 votes ahead of perennial All-Star Carmelo Anthony. Dwyane Wade and Kyrie Irving top the ballot among East guards.

Starters will be announced Jan. 21.

Warriors interim coach Luke Walton said Green's success this season is a reflection of "what hard work does for somebody."

"He 100 percent deserves to be an All-Star this year," Walton said, according to the News Group. "He does everything right, anything you want out of a player. He plays hard every night. He's skilled. He passes. He shoots. He dribbles. He sacrifices for the team."
