— -- Former Georgetown Hoyas forward Greg Whittington is headed to Rutgers to finish his college career.

The 6-foot-8 forward, who was dismissed from the Hoyas program late last month, confirmed to ESPN.com that he committed to Eddie Jordan while on a visit this weekend.

"Coach Jordan welcomed me as family and so did the entire staff," Whittington told ESPN.com. "The style of play is similar to Georgetown, but it's more open and he likes to get out and run."

"They will be in the Big Ten next year with a lot of competition," Whittington added. "I like the players on the team, the campus was nice and they have a good fan base."

Whittington also received interest from Memphis, Nebraska and South Carolina recently.

Whittington averaged 12.1 points and seven rebounds through the first 13 games last season before being deemed ineligible due to academics.

Whittington was set to be a major piece for the Hoyas this year but suffered a torn ACL in the summer, and it was questionable whether he would have been able to return this season if he had remained with the Hoyas.

The question remains how much eligibility Whittington will have with the Scarlet Knights. He played his entire freshman season, played half of his sophomore year before being ruled ineligible, and has missed the first semester this season while recovering from the torn ACL.
