— -- The Charlotte Hornets, in need of depth at point guard, are nearing an agreement to acquire Mo Williams in a trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves, sources confirmed to ESPN.

Charlotte also will receive guard Troy Daniels while Minnesota will acquire guard Gary Neal, sources confirmed.

The trade was reported earlier Tuesday by the website RealGM.com.

The Hornets, who host the Pistons on Tuesday and will enter the All-Star break in contention for a playoff spot, are without star point guard Kemba Walker, who will miss at least another five weeks while recovering from knee surgery.

Williams, 32, was a reserve last season for the Trail Blazers but has started 19 games this season for Minnesota, filling in for the injured Ricky Rubio at point guard. A 12-year veteran, Williams is averaging 12.2 points and 6.4 assists in 41 games overall this season.

Williams, who scored a career-high 52 points in a game against the Pacers last month, should provide a scoring boost at point guard for Charlotte, which has primarily used Brian Roberts at the position since Walker's injury.

Daniels has played sparingly for Minnesota this season, averaging 2.8 points in just 19 games. Neal, 30, averaged 9.6 points in 43 games with Charlotte this season.
