At Biloxi, Miss. -- David Izon, Pensacola, Fla., knocked out Terrance Lewis, Philadelphia, in the fifth round, heavyweights; Billy Lewis knocked out Andre Haddock in the first round, light heavyweights; Julian Wheeler outpointed Victor McKinnis in 12 rounds, junior welterweights; Harold Warren outpointed David Tetteh in 10 rounds, lightweights.

At Cardiff, Wales -- Joe Calzaghe scored a 12-round unanimous decision over Rich Thornberry to retain his WBO super middleweight title.

At Las Vegas -- Jorge Luis Gonzalez scored a third-round TKO over Alex Stewart, heavyweights; Syd Vanderpool scored a seventh-round TKO over Mario Iribarren, junior middleweights.

At Tijuana, Mexico -- Diego Morales scored a ninth-round TKO over Victor Godoi to capture the WBO super flyweight title.

At Verona, N.Y. -- Carl Daniels won a 10-round decision over Bobby Heath, junior middleweights; Henry Hughes won a 10-round decision over Greg Haugen, welterweights; Luther Smith knocked out Jesus Arroyo in the fourth round, welterweights.

At Worcester, Mass. -- Byron Mitchell, Ozark, Ala., stopped Frankie Liles, Los Angeles, in the 11th round to win the WBA super middleweight title; John Ruiz, Chelsea, Mass., stopped Fernely Feliz, Dominican Republic, in the seventh round to retain the WBA North American heavyweight title; Lincoln Carter won a 10-round decision over Tyrone Armstead, light heavyweights; Richard Hall knocked out Fabian Hall in the second round, light heavyweights; Nana Konadu won a 10-round decision over Hector Acero-Sanchez, bantamweights.

At Gold Coast, Australia -- Joe Bugner, Australia, won by disqualification over Levi Billups, San Diego, in the ninth round for repeated low blows.

At Fayetteville, N.C. -- Larry Holmes, Easton, Pa., stopped James Smith, Fayetteville, N.C., in the eighth round, heavyweights; Greg Page, Louisville, Ky., stopped Tim Witherspoon, Philadelphia, in the seventh round, heavyweights; Billy Costello, Kingston, N.Y., outpointed Juan LaPorte, Puerto Rico, in 10 rounds, middleweights.
