Mark Zuckerberg's Sister Writes Children's Book About Going Offline

Oct. 17, 2013— -- Things may be a little awkward at one of the multiple Zuckerberg households this holiday season. Randi, the sister of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, recently wrote "Dot," a children's book about a tech-savvy girl that is reminded to stop and smell the roses every now and then.

A nice message, though perhaps an odd one coming from the sibling of the man who has digitally linked millions of people.

"She's obsessed with her devices (sound familiar?), but with a little push she's reminded that life's a little bit richer when you look up from the screen," she writes on her blog. "As I watch my two-year-old begin to discover technology, I feel certain that this is an important message to share with a younger audience."

Zuckerberg has also written a nonfiction book called "Dot Complicated" for adults, chronicling her experiences as a former employee of Facebook, as the founder of Zuckerberg Media and as a mother. The book will also dispense general pearls of wisdom about how to handle issues like etiquette and social privacy while navigating the digital world.

Though "Dot" will be about making sure children don't get completely sucked into their devices, Zuckerberg herself isn't advocating disconnecting entirely. Her blog, also called Dot Complicated, is a modern take on Miss Manners. Some recent posts from other contributors attempt to answer questions like "What's the emotional weight of a Facebook birthday wish?" or "Under what circumstances can I Instagram my food?"

Both "Dot" and "Dot Complicated" will be in stores on Nov. 5. Interestingly enough, they will also be available for eReaders like Amazon's Kindle and Barnes and Noble's Nook.
