Nov. 28, 2011— -- In today's TechBytes, it's Cyber Monday.

Traditionally, it's the day when shoppers turn to the internet to get whatever they didn't find in the stores.

But this year, e-commerce set a record on Black Friday.

Sales were up 26 percent.

Top sites were Amazon, Walmart and Best Buy.

If you're shopping online today, here are some tips to keep you and your computer safe:

• Have anti-virus software

• Shop only at trusted sites

• Pay with a credit card, not debit.

• Look for the "s" at the beginning of the web address when you pay - h-t-t-p-s. That means the page is secure.

At least two U.S. malls kept tabs on which stores shoppers were visiting on Black Friday, using their cell phones as tracking devices.

The information is anonymous, but helps retailers figure out shopping patterns.

The mall operator who used it this weekend says it won't anymore, until there's a way for shoppers to opt out.
