Sept. 30, 2011— -- In today's TechBytes, Microsoft sweetens its smartphone operating system.

They call it "Mango" for Windows Phone 7.5 and USA Today's Ed Baig says it's come a long way from Microsoft's old, business-oriented past.

"With Mango, Microsoft has made it even friendlier. They've integrated some social networking better, there's multi-tasking and there's some other features to highlights apps. So they do a nice job with apps but they certainly need more of them," notes Baig.

Microsoft says it is adding apps faster than everybody but Apple and it already has 90 percent of the most popular ones.

Moody Twitter

Tweets may be just 140 characters long, but they can tell what mood the entire globe is in.

Researchers at Cornell University studied the words in some 500 million tweets sent in English from 84 countries.

They found that people everywhere wake up in a good mood but it goes downhill from there.

And not surprisingly, their outlook improves as the weekend nears.
