Eliot Asinof, 88 -- Author who was best known for "Eight Men Out," his book about the 1919 World Series "Black Sox" scandal he also played in the minor leagues.

Stewart R. Mott, 70 -- Philanthropist.

Harlan Cleveland, 90 -- Diplomat, author and educator.

Elly Peterson, 94 -- Former co-chairwoman of the Republican National Committee who championed the Equal Rights Amendment and launched outreach programs for African Americans.

"We Republicans believe that the door of opportunity must be opened to every American."

THIS WEEK THE PENTAGON RELEASED THE NAMES OF FIVE SOLDIERS KILLED IN IRAQ.
