— -- To its legions of pre-teen admirers, the American Girl collection of dolls and books brings history to life. And to celebrate next weekend's nationwide debut of the feature film Kit Kittredge: An American Girl based on the books about a 10-year-old budding journalist in Depression-era Cincinnati Cincinnati's Museum Center at Union Terminal is hosting a "Kit's World Tour" Saturday and Sunday.

The $10-a-person admission includes such Kit-related activities as climbing into a treehouse like the ones Kit and pal Ruthie dream of building, making a "Waste Not, Want Not" journal, and playing cub reporter by solving a historical Cincinnati crime. A separate "Kit's Friends Social," $40 for museum members and $50 for non-members, includes entertainment, prizes and lunch with a newspaper editor. Information: 513-287-7000; cincymuseum.org.

Can't make it to Cincinnati? American Girl's website, americangirl.com, lists more than three dozen themed hotel packages tied to its retail stores in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles and New York.
