Bob Iger Joins Chargers and Raiders in NFL Carson Stadium Project
The Disney CEO serves as the non-executive chairman of the joint venture.
— -- Bob Iger, chairman and chief executive of the Walt Disney Co., has signed on to be the non-executive chairman of Carson Holdings LLC.
Carson Holdings was formed by the Oakland Raiders and the San Diego Chargers in February and has been working on a plan with the California city of Carson, which is in Los Angeles County, to construct a new NFL stadium on a 168-acre lot there.
If the owners of the Raiders and Chargers agree to the stadium site, the two NFL teams would move to Los Angeles.
"Should the owners approve the move, Los Angeles will proudly welcome two incredible teams to our community and build a stadium worthy of their fans," Iger said in a statement. "L.A. football fans will enjoy unprecedented access to games during the season, in a state of the art stadium designed to deliver the most entertaining, exciting and enjoyable experience possible."
In his new role, Iger will hire a president for Carson Holdings who will oversee the teams' participation with the stadium project. This will include the design of the facility, local marketing campaigns and fan experiences.
Iger will continue to serve in his roles at Burbank, California-based Disney, which is the parent company of ABC News.
