The Midtown South Precinct tweeted a photo of a handcuffed suspect in an Elmo costume who was arrested Tuesday for "aggressive solicitation."
More specifically, a woman dressed as Elmo allegedly demanded cash to have her picture taken with police officers posing as tourists, ABC News New York station WABC reported.
The plainclothes operation Tuesday was "an effort to address the quality of life concerns that have arisen from the aggressive entrepreneurism that has been associated with the costumed characters in Times Square," a police spokeswoman said. "The operation resulted in the arrest of one costumed character dressed as Elmo for aggressive solicitation at 16:17 hours at the corner of Avenue of the Americas and West 45th Street."
