WATCH Florida Man Kills His 6 Grandchildren in Apparent Murder-Suicide, Police Say

A Florida man shot his daughter this afternoon, then killed his six grandchildren -- ranging in age from 2 to 11 -- before turning the gun on himself, authorities said.

The Gilchrist County Sheriff's Department identified the alleged shooter as 51-year-old Don Charles Spirit, but gave no other details about the suspect.

Police said they received a call from the family's home at about 4 p.m., but that no one was alive once they arrived.

The other victims were identified by law enforcement officials as Sarah Spirit, 28; Alanna Stewart, 2; Brandon Stewart, 4; Destiny Stewart, 5; Johnathon Kuhlmann, 8; Kylie Kuhlmann, 9; and Kaleb Kuhlmann, 11.

Don Charles Spirit had a criminal record, according to police, who did not provide details.

The incident took place in the town of Bell in Gilchrist County. Bell has a population of about 350 people and is located some 30 miles west of Gainesville, Florida.
