1. Cameron Diaz is Married to Benji Madden

Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden were married Monday "in an intimate ceremony at their home in Los Angeles," their rep told People magazine.

"We couldn't be happier to begin our new journey together surrounded by our closest family and friends," the couple told the magazine

Less than a month after news of her engagement started to circulate, Diaz, 42, secretly tied the knot on Monday night in Beverly Hills. This comes less than a year after the two were first spotted holding hands last summer.

2. New York City Police Officers Injured in Shooting

Two New York City Police officers were shot Monday while responding to a robbery call, authorities said, but their injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.

The shooting happened after 10:30 p.m. in the city’s Bronx borough, at East 184th Street and Tiebout Avenue.

One of the officers, 30, was shot in the left arm and lower back and was listed in critical but stable condition, Police Commissioner Bill Bratton said at an early morning news conference. The other officer, who's 38, was listed in stable condition after he was shot in the chest and left arm.

3. Tommy Gilbert, Son of Slain Hedge Fund Founder, Appears in Court

The son of a hedge fund founder accused in his father’s shooting death made his initial court appearance Monday, standing with his defense attorneys and saying nothing.

Tommy Gilbert, 30, did not enter a plea. He’s charged with murder in the second degree for the fatal shooting of Thomas Gilbert, 70, along with a weapons charge and 21 counts of criminal possession of forgery devices – with authorities saying they recovered a skimming device and 21 blank credit cards from Gilbert’s apartment.

Monday’s hearing was deferred at the request of defense. Gilbert is remanded into custody until his next hearing, which is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 9.

4. The Most Likely Players to Enter Baseball's Hall of Fame

The next class of baseball hall of famers will be announced today – and three pitchers are the leading candidates for enshrinement.

Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez and John Smoltz, all in their first year of eligibility, appear likely to earn induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York. Holdover candidates Craig Biggio and Mike Piazza could also gain entry into the Hall of Fame.

Voters with the Baseball Writers’ Association of America decide on baseball’s hall of famers. Anyone earning 75 percent of the vote gains enshrinement.

5. Most Memorable Moments of 'The Bachelor' Premiere

"Bachelor" fans will have a lot to talk about following Monday's dramatic season premiere.
