To the developing story in the gulf tonight, a fire burning out of control in a natural gulf rig in the gulf of mexico. Workers rescued and of course it reminded us all of this, that other fire in the gulf, the horizon explosion a few years ago, the worst environmental disaster m american history. Tonight this new rig on fire sits partial le collapsed 55 miles off the cost of louisiana. Natural gas is leaking. Ryan owens is tracking it all tonight. Reporter: Tonight a fire ball is consuming the massive rig in the gulf of mexico, its platform melting away as natural gas spus from the we will. 44 workers used life capsules like these to safely evacuate the rig. After a blowout at the well formed an ex explosive cloud around the rig that ignited. This is 55 miles after the coast of louisiana in the same general area of the gulf as the deep water horizon spilled. That disaster killed 11 people and gushed millions of barrels of water over 80 days. Though this burning rig may bring back memories, it will not bring that devastation.
