Next here tonight, a harrowing rescue at sea, caught on camera. A sailor swept overboard during a race around the world. Barely visible, struggling to keep his head above water as the crew fought giant waves to reel him to safety. ABC's Ryan Owens shows us how. Reporter: The ocean was so rough, the waves so relentless, it's hard to believe the sailboat stayed afloat. Mayday, mayday, we have a man overboard. Reporter: There he was. At first, just speck of yellow bobbing in the surf. 46-year-old Andrew Taylor of London spent a remarkable hour and a half battling the pacific ocean. During a storm. He fell overboard changing the sail but never gave up hope. I didn't know if you were looking for me or not. I didn't know if you had seen me. Reporter: Little did he know, his crew mates weren't giving up, either. After all, they were 2,500 miles from San Francisco, in the middle of the pacific. They were on board a racing yacht, one of 12 teams ration around the world. They were on the tenth leg of the race, traveling between China and the United States when they lost their man. Taylor likely only survived because he was wearing a life jacket and a dry suit. It probably didn't hurt he spent the last seven months on the water. He was suffering from shock and mild hypothermia. At the moment, she's being monitored by the -- there's a paramedic on board. He's in good spirits. Reporter: Tonight, the crew is back together and back in the race. Although one lucky sailor may have already won the ultimate battle -- for survival. Ryan Owens, ABC news, los Angeles.
