Back to this country now. The extreme weather battering the nation because of the major thaw tonight. The out break of tornados the damage was stunning. ABC with the water rescues and that devastation. Reporter: Worse that the freeze, the thaw. Rescuers go in on boats today in northern Ohio where ice cold water surrounded homes. An elderly woman and dog are carried to safety. Others evacuated. I didn't want to leave but they told me I had to. Reporter: So much water melting so fast in Indiana. Neighborhood streets are overtaken. This is coming from the creek. Reporter: And the flooding behind this ice jam north of Pittsburgh forcing dozen from their homes tonight. It's this brief warmup in a frigid February that ushered in these winter tornados this week. I was just putting my hands over my head and just baring that we'll stay alive.
