March 7, 2011 — -- Kate Middleton surprised onlookers during her appearance with fiancé Prince William in Angsley, Wales on Feb. 24, when she sang the Welsh national anthem and hymn in Welsh.

It was the first official event for the newly engaged couple since the announcement of their upcoming wedding. Many onlookers noted how the future princess demonstrated confidence and grace as she accepted flowers and gifts from locals attending the event.

But what might have been most endearing to the crowd was the effort to demonstrate her knowledge of the Welsh language.

In December, The Huffington Post reported that Middleton had been learning Welsh on her own for quite some time. Buckingham Palace has since confirmed that Kate took the initiative to learn the difficult language.

Kate Middleton may have been inspired to learn the Welsh language because she and Prince William plan on moving to Wales, where he will be stationed as a member of the Royal Air Force.

More importantly, Middleton might someday become the Princess of Wales, just as William's mother Diana did after her wedding to Prince Charles.
