In the All-Star Game Clubhouse with José Fernández
Fusion had the chance to talk with Miami Marlins' pitcher, José Fernández
July 16, 2013 — -- José Fernández is only 20 years old, but is already making big waves in Major League Baseball. He is a pitcher for the Miami Marlins, and one of the youngest in history to play on the National League All-Star team.
Fernández was born in 1992 in Santa Clara, Cuba. He tried to leave Cuba four times, before successfully arriving in the United States in 2008. During his fourth try, he was with his mother in a boat at night, when the boat tipped and someone fell over. Fernández jumped in, and only after saving the woman, did he realize he had just saved his mother.
Fernández says he doesn't feel the pressure of being young in the MLB. Instead, he just wants to enjoy his time playing baseball. "I love it. I work for it every day. I give 100 percent to it every day."
