Dec. 14, 2009 — -- The South Carolina Governor sent heads spinning when he disappeared in June for five days. His camp initially claimed he was hiking in the Appalachian Mountains before it was revealed that he was visiting his mistress in Argentina.

Sanford has since been charged with 37 ethics violations, centering around his travel and campaign spending. The ethics charges include: the purchase of first-class or business-class airline tickets for official business, when state law requires lowest-cost travel; improper use of state-owned aircraft for travel to political and personal events; and improper reimbursements to himself from campaign funds.
