Adele Talks Postpartum Depression, 'Mom Guilt' and Fame
"It frightened me," she admitted.
— -- If you're an Adele fan, you know how much the singer's 4-year-old son Angelo means to her.
But she revealed in the new issue of Vanity Fair that after his birth, she struggled with something common to many women: postpartum depression.
As a result, she added, she's not looking to have any more children.
“I had [it] really bad...and it frightened me," she told the magazine. "I felt very inadequate; I felt like I’d made the worst decision of my life."
The singer, 28, said that to cope, she opened up about the ordeal to a friend, who was also struggling. She also gave herself one baby-free afternoon each week to focus on herself.
"A friend of mine said, ‘Really? Don’t you feel bad?’ I said, I do, but not as bad as I’d feel if I didn’t do it," she recalled. "I love my son more than anything, but on a daily basis, if I have a minute or two, I wish I could do whatever the f--- I wanted, whenever I want. Every single day I feel like that."
The Grammy-winner also says she feels guilty for not spending enough time with Angelo on tour.
"Even though my son is with me all the time, on certain nights I can’t put him to bed," she said. "You’re constantly trying to make up for stuff when you’re a mom."
As for her career, Adele said she loves making music, but isn't so keen on fame.
"I’d still like to make records, but I’d be fine if I never heard [the applause] again," she said. "I’m on tour simply to see everyone who’s been so supportive. I don’t care about money."
