Charmayne Maxwell of Brownstone Dies at 46, Brother Says

— -- Charmayne Maxwell, a member of the '90s R&B group Brownstone, has died. She was 46.

"R.I.P my beautiful sister Charmayne "Maxee" Maxwell," her brother Brandon Maxwell wrote on Twitter Saturday, confirming his sister's death. "I can't even believe I'm typing this right now."

The cause of death has yet to be determined, but the singer's mother-in-law told the Danish publication Ekstra Bladet that the singer died after an accidental fall.

"She fell. I do not want to say more now," Aase Schack told the newspaper.

The singer's brother also alluded to the tragic circumstances surrounding her death.

"My sister died in the most terrible way," Brandon wrote on Twitter.

Maxwell was married to Danish music producer Carsten Soulshock, and the couple lived in Los Angeles with their son, Nicolaj Schack.

The couple met when Soulshock was hired as a producer for Brownstone.

Maxwell was a member of the girl group for over a decade. Signed to Michael Jackson's MJJ label, they were best known for their hit single "If You Love Me," for which they earned a Billboard Music Award and a Grammy nomination.

Teisha Brown, a fellow member of the group, mourned Maxwell's tragic passing on Instagram.

"I just need to be by you 1 more time on stage MAX! #BROWNSTONE #FOREVER R.I.H. I miss you already!! My heart is so heavy. I LOVE YOU SISTER!!" Brown wrote.
