Dean McDermott's ex-wife, Mary Jo Eustace, only wants the best for him as he tries to get help in rehab.
McDermott, an actor and reality-TV star who is married to Tori Spelling, announced Thursday that he had entered rehab and was "sorry for the mistakes I have made and for the pain I've caused my family."
McDermott, 47, has been the center of infidelity rumors over the past few weeks, and Eustace, whom he left for Spelling, told People magazine, "I wish Dean only the best in his struggle to overcome the demons he has been wrestling with for many years, so he can become the father and the man I know he wants to be."
The two divorced in 2006 and are parents to son Jack, 15.
"My main concern at this point is the well-being and health of the son we share," Eustace said.
Eustace, 51, is also looking for McDermott to work out the rest of his problems quietly.
"I am also hopeful that from this point on there will be a dedicated effort to deal with this matter privately and respectfully, for the sake of all the children involved," she said.
Spelling and McDermott are parents to Liam, 6; Stella, 5; Hattie, 2; and Finn, 15 months.
