— -- "Outlander" fans, rejoice! After 14 months of waiting, the so-called "Droughtlander" is coming to an end this Sunday. The time-traveling Scottish romance, based on Diana Gabaldon’s popular book series, returns to Starz for its ambitious third season.

Not only does this season span years and continents, it also features the long-awaited reunion of Jamie, a Scottish outlaw from the 1700s played by Sam Heughan, and Claire, a British nurse from the 1940s played by Caitriona Balfe.

“It’s something we’ve been looking forward to and I think it’s long overdue and certainly the episodes that lead up to it are kind of very different and exciting,” Heughan told ABC News at the show’s NYC premiere last week. “It’s a great journey so when they finally do meet I think the stakes are all heightened and, yeah, it’s just a great reunion.”

The first half of the season takes us through the 20 years the couple has spent apart -- in different time periods -- where they must learn to live without each other. Claire moves to Boston and raises her daughter Brianna with Frank, a man she doesn't love. As she tries to forget the past, she throws herself into medical school and becomes a surgeon.

After nearly dying on the battlefield at Culloden, Jamie spends the next 20 years in hiding, pretending to be a servant to a British family and a printer in Edinburgh.

While it's a secret exactly how many episodes they spend apart, fans should know their reunion -- the famous “Print Shop” scene, as fans call it -- is worth the wait.

“I think [fans are] ready,” Heughan said. “I think we’re all ready. Sunday can’t come soon enough!”
