Garth Brooks Talks History-Making Yankee Stadium Concert
Brooks gave the first-ever country music concert at the stadium.
— -- Country music superstar Garth Brooks is on the road again. This weekend he performed at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, his first New York performance in 19 years.
He last performed in New York in Central Park. His 1997 concert there was reportedly attended by nearly 1 million people.
“GMA”’s Rachel Smith caught up with the “Friends in Low Places” singer at Yankee Stadium, where he confirmed he was a baseball fan.
“Yeah, I am. Second to music. Yeah, I love baseball. I love the history of it,” Brooks, 54, said.
His was the first-ever country music concert to take place on the field of Yankee Stadium.
“It's cool,” he said of his famous first. “It's like you got to carry the flag at the Olympics. You got to carry the flag of country music into Yankee Stadium.
Speaking before a camera before he entered the stadium to perform, he made a prediction: “This is going to be fun ... because the truth is, if you’re going to be playing something like Yankee Stadium you better come to represent.”
Brooks performed at Yankee Stadium on Friday and Saturday nights.
