— -- Gavin DeGraw kicked off his North American tour last week in anticipation of his fifth studio album, "Something Worth Saving." The album’s single, “She Sets the City on Fire,” is already climbing the charts, debuting in the top 25 on the Hot AC radio chart.

Recording artist Andy Grammerm is co-headlining the tour with DeGraw and the pair will be hitting more than 40 cities in the next three months with stops at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, the Fillmore in Philadelphia and the Orpheum Theatre in Boston.

The first show was a bit of a homecoming for DeGraw. The tour kicked off in Bethel, New York -- not too far from where Degraw who grew up. “By the time the show started I had already spoken to my whole town and didn’t have a lot of a voice left,” he told ABC News with a laugh.

DeGraw broke into the industry with his 2003 release of his album "Chariot," which went platinum, selling more than 1 million copies and debuting at No. 7 on Billboard’s Top 200 album chart. Since then, DeGraw has been nominated for a Grammy, co-wrote the film "Safe Haven" and toured around the world.

“I never expected to get this far.... A lot of people get signed and they never have the opportunity to release it, so to be here has been an amazing journey,” DeGraw said.

After more than a decade in the industry, DeGraw still considers performing challenging.

“It keeps you on your toes.... There is no easy night,” he said. “There’s always a new audience and you can never play the show identically the way it was the night before. Every crowd is different.”

"Something Worth Saving" will be released on Sept. 9. Tickets for his shows are on sale now.
