April 4, 2014 — -- Johnny Depp confirmed his engagement indirectly last month when the actor showed off a "chick's ring" during an interview.

When asked about being engaged, Depp, 50, said, "The fact that I'm wearing a chick's ring on my finger is probably a dead giveaway. Not very subtle."

He clarified the "chick's ring" comment Thursday night on the “Late Show With David Letterman.”

"I do, I have a female engagement ring on my finger," Depp said, followed by Letterman’s telling the actor that it's not typical for a man to wear them.

"No," Depp said. "It was too big for my girl."

He continued that "it's a big fallacy" that anybody knows his or her partner's ring size.

When Letterman realized the ring might have been too big for fiancée Amber Heard, Depp replied, "So, I put it on ... It fit."

"She has the other one that fits," he added.

Depp reportedly proposed late last year and Heard was seen in January sporting her engagement ring.

Depp announced his separation from longtime girlfriend Vanessa Paradis in June 2012 and started dating his "Rum Diary" co-star, 27, shortly after. Depp has two children with Paradis.
