Katy Mixon Talks Body Image, Lead Role in ABC's Latest Sitcom, 'American Housewife'
"American Housewife" premieres tonight at 8:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
— -- Actress Katy Mixon has landed a lead TV role in ABC's newest sitcom, "American Housewife."
Mixon plays Katie Otto, a confident, unapologetic wife and mother of three, raising her family in the wealthy town of Westport, Connecticut, filled with "perfect" mommies and their "perfect" children.
"She's an authentic lady living in an unauthentic world," Mixon said of her character.
"And she is trying the best with her husband Greg to raise them in a grounded, stable situation where it's not stable, really."
Mixon is best known for playing Melissa McCarthy's sister in "Mike & Molly."
She told "GMA" this morning that she "couldn't be more grateful" for being cast in a lead role.
"I'm having the time of my life," she said. "I finished 'Mike & Molly,' I think it was Jan. 24, and four days later I walked into the 'American Housewife' crew and auditioned and I was back at it and here I am."
Mixon said the show also deals with serious issues like body image.
"Me personally, I have never let the media dictate my identity," she said. "I don't hold what I am, either I'm a size 14, or a size 4, a size 8, I have never allowed that to be my self worth. Katie Otto deals with it though on a regular basis and so, we touch on it."
"American Housewife" premieres tonight at 8:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
