— -- Lance Bass, 35, has changed a lot since his 'N Sync days.

Now, more than a decade since the iconic group retired and its members went their separate ways, Bass has decided to get back into music.

"It's exciting. I detoured for a while there," he told ABC News. "I had a little free time a few months ago and I decided I want to do my debut single. It's something I miss so much."

So when the opportunity to record with an up-and-coming talent happened, Bass jumped at it.

"One song fell in my lap that I just knew I had to record, which was the song, 'Walking on Air,'" he said. "The girl on the track, I fell in love with -- Bella Blue -- and I had to do this duet as my first single."

He added, "We released it in Europe in January and it was No. 1 for several weeks. Now we are ready to take America by storm, so we released it two weeks ago and are going to start promoting that, going to start in the clubs."

There was even a remix that hit the clubs last week.

"In the meantime, I'm already working on my second single, so music is def back in my life," he said.

So, how does Bass' music differ from his "Bye, Bye, Bye" days with the likes of Justin Timberlake.

Well, for one, he's engaged to the love of his life, Michael Turchin, and will be filming his upcoming nuptials for an E! special early next year.

"I like to sing from my heart," he said. "Even with the remix to 'Walking on Air,' you'll actually hear me saying the word 'boy' instead of 'girl,' like, 'Oh, my gosh,' think about a guy singing about a guy."

Bass came out as gay in 2006 and couldn't be happier with Turchin.

"This year, I'm extremely proud just because, right now, I'm wearing an engagement ring," he said. "And knowing that I'm going to get married because of how hard people fought is overwhelming and very emotional for me."

Expect a lot of new hits to come from Bass' upcoming wedding.

"Yeah, I think this wedding is definitely going to inspire a lot of great ballads," he said.
