Madonna Enters Elton John-Dolce & Gabbana Feud
What the material girl had to say about the designers' controversial comments.
— -- Madonna has never shied away from a little controversy.
Now the Material Girl is weighing in on the feud brewing between Elton John and designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana.
John is leading a boycott of the label after Dolce called children conceived by alternative methods "synthetic babies" during a recent interview with an Italian magazine. Other celebrities, including Ricky Martin, Courtney Love and Martina Navratilova, have joined the boycott, which Stefano Gabbana has reportedly criticized as "an authoritarian way of seeing the world: Agree with me or, if you don’t, I'll attack you."
While Madonna stopped short of joining the boycott, the pop star, who posed for a series of "sexy housewife" ads for the Dolce & Gabbana label in 2009 and 2010, did wag a finger at the two designers.
Posting a snapshot of herself from her former campaign with the label, Madonna wrote on Instagram: "All babies contain a soul however they come to this earth and their families. There is nothing synthetic about a soul!! So how can we dismiss IVF and surrogacy? Every soul comes to us to teach us a lesson. God has his hand in everything even technology! We are arrogant to think Man does anything on his own. As above so below! Think before you speak.,,,,,,,,,,,??#livingforlove."
decade-long feud, which began after John publicly accused Madonna of lip-synching and finally ended in 2013 with his sending a note of apology to the Material Girl.
