New York Governor David Paterson made a special appearance on "Saturday Night Live's" season premiere alongside Fred Armisen – who was dressed as the governor – on the show's "Weekend Update" segment. Amy Poehler apologized to the governor for the show's long-running gag of mocking the Governor's blindness. "You should be sorry," he responded. "You have poked so much fun at me for being blind that I forgot I was black."

Will Ferrell and Cheri Oteri as the Spartan Cheerleaders. Known for their at-best quirky, at-worst terrible cheering abilities, the Spartans show up at increasingly bizarre school events such as chess matches and math competitions. Their presence is almost never appreciated, despite their performance of "The Perfect Cheer" at the end of each of their routines. <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpxfl8PtKaM&feature=related">Watch the Spartans on YouTube.</a>

Fred Armisen portraying President Barack Obama.  This is not the first time Armisen has played a political figure, or even a person of color.  Armisen was widely criticized for his controversial portrayal of a doddering, wise-cracking, New Jersey-hating New York Governor David Paterson.  Armisen's impression of President Obama is marked by clipped speech patterns and cool, unflappable demeanor.

Mike Meyers and Madonna portray the women of "Coffee Talk," a fictional cable-access show better known as "Coffee Tawk" thanks to the characters' exaggerated, stereotypical New York accents.  In this sketch, the characters talk about their ongoing love affair with Barbra Streisand, and to their surprise, Streisand herself appears on the set. <a href="http://www.hulu.com/watch/4118/saturday-night-live-coffee-talk">Watch this skit on Hulu.</a>

In perhaps his best known "Saturday Night Live" impression, Will Ferrell portrays George W. Patrick Swayze and Chris Farley portray auditioning Chippendales dancers in this "Saturday Night Live" sketch. To both characters' surprise, the judges prefer the portly Farley to the more-in-shape Swayze.  Both actors have since died,  Farley of cardiac arrest brought on by a drug overdose, and Swayze of pancreatic cancer. <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9RajNvJ3bCU">Watch this skit on YouTube.</a>

Andy Samberg and guest host Justin Timberlake portray stereotypical, wannabe R&B artists, giving their girlfriends a special "gift" for Christmas, the infamous "D*ck in a Box."  The skit, one of the first of "Saturday Night Live's" digital shorts, went viral almost immediately and sparked a follow-up pegged to Mother's Day.
