— -- Sarah Paulson is opening up about her relationship with Holland Taylor, saying she is "absolutely" in love with the actress.

In an interview with the New York Times, Paulson discussed how she and Taylor began dating and gushed about how smitten she is with the "Two and a Half Men" actress.

Rumors of Paulson and Taylor's relationship began spreading in December 2015, and Paulson noted that the interest and attention that their relationship received was "surreal."

“My choices in romantic partners have not been conventional, and therefore the idea that it is ‘other’ makes it compelling," Paulson said.

Paulson, 41, and Taylor, 73 first met at a dinner party about 10 years ago, and Paulson revealed that she thought that Taylor was “probably the most exquisitely beautiful woman I’d ever seen.” After running into each other a few years later, the couple began following each other on Twitter and exchanging direct messages. Paulson says she and Taylor have been dating for a little over a year now.

“If my life choices had to be predicated based on what was expected of me from a community on either side, that’s going to make me feel really straitjacketed, and I don’t want to feel that,” Paulson said. “What I can say absolutely is that I am in love, and that person happens to be Holland Taylor.”

Paulson addressed the 32-year age difference between her and Taylor, revealing that she has never seriously dated anyone her own age and staying that “there’s a poignancy to being with someone older.”

“I think there’s a greater appreciation of time and what you have together and what’s important, and it can make the little things seem very small. It puts a kind of sharp light mixed with a sort of diffused light on something," Paulson said. "I can’t say it any other way than there’s a poignancy to it, and a heightened sense of time and the value of time.”

The "The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story" star also cited her "complicated home life" as part of the reason she is more comfortable being around people who are older than she is.

“I had a complicated home life, and my teachers, predominantly my theater teachers and my English teachers, were very dedicated to taking care of me in a particular way,” Paulson said. “And in doing so, I think I developed a very easy rapport with people older than myself.”
