— -- The spotlight was on Shailene Woodley Sunday at the 2015 MTV Movie Awards in Los Angeles.

Her drama “The Fault in Our Stars” was named movie of the year, and Woodley received the award for best female performance for her role as a cancer-stricken teen. The prize for best kiss went to Woodley and her “Fault in Our Stars” co-star Ansel Elgort.

Woodley was also the recipient of the MTV Trailblazer Award, presented to her by her “Insurgent” and “The Spectacular Now” co-star Miles Teller.

Bradley Cooper was given the Golden Popcorn statuette for best male performance, for his portrayal of the late Chris Kyle in “American Sniper.” He dedicated his award to Kyle, who would have turned 41 last week.

Robert Downey Jr.'s career was celebrated with the Generation Award. His “Avengers: Age of Ultron” co-stars – Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner – presented him with his award, then dropped down to their knees in a humorous show of respect as he delivered his speech.

Downey remarked that since MTV launched in the early 1980s, "I have grown up, I've struggled, I've failed, I've succeeded, I partied way too much. I've squandered, resisted, surrendered, repented, labored, begged for second chances, and literally clawed my way to the top."

Jimmy Kimmel presented the Comedic Genius award to Kevin Hart, who accepted with his children by his side.

The MTV Movie Awards were hosted by Amy Schumer, who opened the two-hour broadcast with a taped sketch in which she parodied films such as “The Fault in Our Stars,” “Boyhood,” “Whiplash,” “The Hunger Games” series and the “Divergent” franchise.

She began her opening monologue in part by joking, "Half of you don't know who I am and half of you think I'm Meghan Trainor."

She picked on Hart's small stature quite a bit; at one point she asked, "Did you see Boyhood? He was the boy age 8 to 9. He was the fake baby in American Sniper."

Schumer also made light of some recent headlines, stating, "After months of speculation, Hillary Clinton finally announced she's taking Zayn's spot in One Direction. The first woman in One Direction! I never thought I'd live to see the day."

She then said, "This is going to be the party of the year. I just hope Harrison Ford doesn't crash it," referring to Ford's recent plane crash.

The show also featured new previews of “Avengers: Age of Ultron” and “Pitch Perfect 2,” as well as musical performances by Fall Out Boy and Charli XCX.
