Leonardo DiCaprio, who finally took home the award for Best Actor after five nominations, brought his mother to the big show.

He said it was because when he was growing up in east Los Angeles, his parents took him to auditions every day after school.

DiCaprio described himself as an "overly ambitious" child who had his heart set on becoming an actor, and it was his parents who "listened to a young child's dreams," he told ABC's Robin Roberts on the red carpet.

"And I could never be more thankful," he told Roberts.
