CNN, MTV Evacuate After Bomb Threats
September 14 -- Three days after the deadly terrorist attacks on America, continued bomb threats — especially those in New York and Washington D.C. — are being treated with utter seriousness
An anonymous caller's bomb threat to CNN forced evacuations of its news bureau in midtown Manhattan, N.Y., Thursday morning.
CNN news anchors Paula Zahn and Aaron Brown, both new to the job, converted the corner of 8th Avenue into an impromptu outdoor news studio, a CNN spokeswoman told The Hollywood Reporter. The CNN anchors reported the latest crisis literally from New York's streets.
CNN news staff were allowed to return to their Penn Plaza headquarters about a half-hour later, notes the Reporter.
Meanwhile, MTV evacuated its employees from its corporate offices because of bomb scare rumors that the Times Square area had been targeted, while record labels with offices nearby — Sony Music, Warner Music Group, Universal Music Group, and EMI — gave employees the option of going home, according to the Reporter.Since Tuesday's deadly attacks, there have been bomb scares at LaGuardia Airport in Queens, N.Y., the San Diego Zoo, and a bomb threat that emptied Congress and sent officials scurrying into the streets in Washington D.C., Reuters reports.
A false bomb threat against the world's tallest buildings, the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, caused local police to evacuate thousands of office workers and shoppers on Thursday.
