Berry May Get Gigli With Affleck

August 14, 2001 -- Halle Berry, fresh off her role as a devious femme fatale of sorts in Swordfish, is in negotiations to star opposite Ben Affleck in the crime romance Gigli.

Berry and Affleck would play criminals who fall in love while on the lam with their mentally challenged kidnap victim, according to Variety. Ah, romance. Jennifer Lopez, who was both tough and romantic in Out of Sight, was previously mentioned for the female lead. Gigli, by the way, is the name of Affleck's hit man character.

Martin Brest, director of such varied fare as Meet Joe Black, Scent of a Woman, and Midnight Run, wrote the script and will direct and co-produce the pic for Revolution Studios.

Berry recently finished filming Lions Gate's Monster's Ball, starring Billy Bob Thornton and Heath Ledger. Affleck, as you surely know by now, is currently in rehab.
