July 23 -- Don't start knitting baby booties anytime soon. Reports that Jennifer Aniston is pregnant are false, a spokesman for the Friends star told ABCNEWS.com.

The Associated Press quoted Aniston's husband Brad Pitt as saying, "No. 1 is already on the way Now we're just hoping that everything goes well."

The quote, taken from the German Marie Claire magazine, is complete fiction, according to Aniston's rep.

"Jennifer Aniston is not pregnant," said her publicist, Stephen Huvane.

He said Pitt, while promoting his movie The Mexican, did speak to the free-lance reporter who wrote the article. But Huvane and a spokesman for Pitt both said the quote was fabricated.

The article's author, Elisa Leonelli, said she knew nothing about the quote and had not put it in her piece, they said.

"The writer confirmed it, she never said it," said Pitt's representative.

Confusing TV With Real Life?

Pitt's publicist's office has asked the magazine to print a retraction. There was no immediate response from Marie Claire.

Aniston and Pitt were wed last July on a beach in Malibu, Calif. Gossip columnists hounded them as they planned their wedding. Since then, the couple has been closely watched for any hint of possible pregnancy.

Pregnancy rumors were also fueled by the cliffhanger season finale of Friends, in which Aniston's character, Rachel, seemingly discovers that she is pregnant.

The Marie Claire article has Pitt commenting on married life and nearly fuels a second rumor with the reporter asking if it's true he and Aniston want to adopt a baby.

Pitt's response: "No, where did you get that?"
