Downey Jr. Arrested Again
April 24 -- Robert Downey Jr., whose legal team is still working on his defense for a drug possession arrest last fall, was arrested again this morning, for suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance, Entertainment Tonight reported on its Web site
The actor, who was on foot at the time of the arrest in the Los Angeles suburb of Culver City, was issued a citation and detained for a few hours, according to ET.
After the star was released, his parole officer picked him up, and then, the actor's rep tells Access Hollywood, Downey checked himself into rehab.
A May 4 court date has been set on these new charges, according to ET. The 36-year-old actor was already due in court April 30 for a preliminary hearing relating to charges stemming from his Thanksgiving weekend arrest for drug possession.
Downey has been free on a $15,000 bond since his November arrest; in January, he entered a plea of innocent to the drug charges. This week, Downey's lawyers challenged the legality of the Nov. 25 search of Downey's Palm Springs, Calif., hotel room and filed motions to throw out the search warrant and suppress evidence.
Downey had been set to make an in-store appearance tonight with singer Vonda Shepard at the Virgin Megastore in West Hollywood, Calif., to promote a new Ally McBeal record. Sony music reps told Mr. Showbiz that the appearance has been canceled.
The actor has found success and acclaim for his work on the Fox sitcom, his first acting gig since being released from a California state prison for violating his probation on previous drug-related offenses.
