Gibson Bored by Own Movie
October 20 -- "It's as boring as a dog's ass," Mel Gibson said of The Million Dollar Hotel, a film he completed ages ago for German director Wim Wenders. Despite winning the Silver Bear award at the Berlin Film Festival in February, Hotel didn't immediately find a distributor.
Gibson made the cutting remark at a press conference in Sydney, Australia, this week, which begs the question of why the actor would trash his own movie, one which he even co-produced.
"He has a great sense of humor," Gibson's rep told Mr. Showbiz. Does that mean Mel was only joking? "He has a great sense of humor," repeated the rep. Well, that clears everything up.
The rep for the Patriot star did say that most reporters had left out Gibson's comments made just prior to the pooch-posterior remark, which were that he "quite liked the film."
Lions Gate eventually picked up the film and is planning to release it sometime early next year.
Mel was Down Under to promote the mind-reading comedy What Women Want. That movie doesn't open until December, but the actor knew he wouldn't get another chance to promote it to his Oz fans.
