Kate Winslet Gives Birth to Girl

L O N D O N, Oct. 16 -- Actress Kate Winslet, star of the international blockbuster Titanic, has named her new babygirl Mia.

The 25-year-old star, married to film worker JimThreapleton, 26, gave birth in London last Thursday.

“Kate and Jim had drawn up a list of 10 names but when thebaby was born, none of them seemed right,” her agent RobertGarlock said.

“Then ‘Mia’ came to them and it seemed just right. There is nofamily significance, they just thought it was a really beautifulname,” he added.

Acting on HoldWinslet now plans to take a break from her acting career tobring up her daughter, the Daily Mail reported.

In March, Winslet said she had no fears about motherhooddisrupting her movie career.

“I’ve never been one for changing what is real in order tomake my career buzz,” she said.

“My career comes second. There are some actors who doback-to-back jobs and are anxious when others are in thelimelight. That’s not me,” she added.

Winslet met her film director husband on the set of themovie Hideous Kinky in 1997. The couple were married inNovember 1998.

In August the couple movedinto a $1.17 million riverside home in southernEngland.
