Whitney Houston Charged with Pot Possession
K A I L U A - K O N A, Hawaii, Sept. 29 -- Pop singer Whitney Houston could face30 days in a Hawaiian jail and a $1,000 fine for allegedlypossessing half an ounce of marijuana, discovered by security staffat the Keahole-Kona International Airport, police said.
The drug was found Jan. 11 in Houston’s bag during a routinesearch as the recording star prepared to board a plane for SanFrancisco, First Deputy Prosecutor Charlene Iboshi said. The pettymisdemeanor charge was filed Tuesday.
Staff kept the bag, but Houston departed before officers hadarrived, police said.
Houston’s husband Bobby Brown was arrested earlier this year atthe airport in Newark, N.J., after testing positive for cocainewhile on probation for a 1996 drunk driving conviction. Houstonpicked Brown up from a Florida jail July 7, when he was released 10days early for good behavior.
