Anne Heche Hospitalized

August 21 -- Actress Anne Heche was hospitalized Saturday after showing up disoriented and shaken on the doorstep of a home in rural Fresno, Calif.

The petite blond actress, who just split from her partner, Ellen DeGeneres, was shaken and confused, the Fresno County Sheriff's Office reported.

According to the Associated Press, Heche apparently knocked on the front door of a house in southern Fresno County and began speaking incoherently to the occupants, said Lt. Merrill Wright.

Sheriff's deputies took her to the University Medical Center in Fresno, Wright said. Neither Wright nor the hospital would comment on what may have caused her condition, and Heche's rep refused to comment to Mr. Showbiz.

Heche, 31, and DeGeneres, 42, showbiz's most high-profile lesbian couple, announced that they were separating Saturday after three and a half years.

"Unfortunately, we have decided to end our relationship," the couple said in a statement in Saturday's New York Daily News, adding that their parting was amicable.

The Daily News reported that DeGeneres was living alone in the couple's Hollywood Hills home and that Heche was staying with friends at an undisclosed location. Daily News writer George Rush also reports that the pair spent the weekend at a retreat in Ojai, Calif.

The city of Ojai is approximately 200 miles south of Fresno and approximately 80 miles north of Los Angeles.

Rush quoted unidentified friends as saying that the breakup did not involve a third party.
