— -- After "Hamilton" star Brandon Victor Dixon took the stage Friday night to address Vice President-elect Mike Pence, who had come to see the hit Broadway musical, many are wondering just who he is.

Dixon, 35, is one of the newest members of the hip-hop musical that details the life of U.S. founding father Alexander Hamilton. The actor portrays Vice President Aaron Burr -- a role originated by actor Leslie Odom Jr.

Here are some things to know about Dixon:

1. He's got trophies.

Dixon is a veteran on the Broadway stage and his roles have garnered him multiple Tony Award nominations. He was nominated for playing Harpo in "The Color Purple" back in 2005. He received another nod earlier this year for his role in "Shuffle Along." He's also earned a Grammy Award nomination when he portrayed music executive Berry Gordy in "Motown the Musical."

2. He's outspoken about politics.

Dixon described himself as "politically active" in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. Dixon often encourages his social media followers to get involved in politics though he appears to refrain from promoting particular candidates. He recently tweeted, "Support whom u want 2 support. Vote for whom u want 2 vote. But hold them accountable!"

3. He's spent time across the pond.

Dixon attended the British American Drama Academy at Balliol College in Oxford, England, then spent some time performing for British audiences. The Maryland native even portrayed Hayward Patterson in "The Scottsboro Boys," in London's West End.

4. He went to top schools.

So we already mentioned his time in Oxford, but Dixon is also a graduate of Columbia University in New York City.

5. You may spot him on TV.

Dixon has had smaller roles on ABC's "One Life to Live," "The Good Wife" and "Law & Order Criminal Intent." And it was recently announced that he's joining the cast of "Power" for its fourth season. He'll play attorney Terry Silver on the hit Starz series.
