The Grammy Award-winning singer announced the news on his personal website and Facebook page.
"Sir Tom Jones' wife of 59 years, Lady Melinda Rose Woodward, passed away Sunday morning, April 10, after a short but fierce battle with cancer," the post on Facebook read. "Surrounded by her husband and loved ones, she passed away peacefully at Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles. Jones simply tweeted a statement April 2, saying: "Due to serious illness in his immediate family, Tom Jones has regretfully had to cancel his performance in Mania this evening. He extends his deepest apologies to both the organisers and the fans, who he is most sad to disappoint. There are no further details at this time."
Later, the "It's Not Unusual" singer canceled other performances in countries such as Japan, South Korea, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates.
Jones and Woodward met in their hometown of Wales at the age of 12, according to the BBC.
They were married four years later in 1957 at the age of 16. The two had one son, Mark, 59.
