— -- Despite a scene of a spooky clown sneaking up behind Tyler Perry’s hilarious Madea character in his latest film, “Boo! A Madea Halloween,” the actor and director said he’s “got nothing to do with these clown sightings” that have been in headlines across America.

“I shot this movie long before these clowns started popping up everywhere,” Perry joked on “Good Morning America” today.

The premise for the Perry’s new Halloween comedy is a fresh twist on a typical Madea adventure, where he combines his distinctive humor with elements of horror.

“She’s babysitting her great niece and she sneaks out to go to a frat party,” Perry said, setting the scene for the shenanigans Madea is about to encounter. “And Madea finds herself in a frat house trying to find her niece, and all these kids play one heck of a game on her, and it turns out to be really funny.”

Perry has played the beloved Madea character for a whopping 18 years, and even though he said he “does not love” playing her, he does “love what it does for the people.”

“When they see it, I love to see them laughing,” he explained. “C’mon, 18 years of that old broad? But listen, as long as people want to see it, she’ll be around.”

“Boo! A Madea Halloween” hits theaters Friday, Oct. 21.
