Victoria Beckham on 'Love at First Sight' and Insecurity in Letter to Herself
The designer revealed all the cutest details about meeting her husband.
— -- In a letter written to her former self, titled "What I Wish I'd Known," designer Victoria Beckham gives some advice to her teenage, pre-Spice Girls self.
In the note, Beckham, who is on the cover of the October issue of Vogue UK, opened up about the first moment she laid eyes on her husband -- and it's straight out of a movie.
Beckham says her personal experience confirms the existence of love at first sight.
"It will happen to you in the Manchester United players’ lounge -- although you will get a little drunk, so exact details are hazy,” she writes in the letter to herself of the first time she met her husband.
"While the other football players stand at the bar drinking with their mates, you will see David standing aside with his family. (He’s not even in the first team at this stage -- you are the famous one.) And he has such a cute smile," she continues.
She then shares that David asked for her number, which she wrote down for him on a London-to-Manchester plane ticket that, of course, he still has.
Aside from romance, Beckham tackles some tougher topics that most 18-year-olds face, like insecurity and issues with body image, that she was no exception to.
"I know you are struggling right now,” she says in the letter. “You are not the prettiest, or the thinnest, or the best at dancing at the Laine Theatre Arts college."
Regardless, Beckham managed to find her way to the Spice Girls, and rock some of the most daring outfits and styles the '90s had to offer. Now, as one of the world's top fashion designers, she looks back fondly on those years.
"I look back at you and smile. It will add interest to your life to go from one extreme to another," she writes. "I love the fact that you will feel free to express yourself."
