April 9, 2014 -- After weeks of battles, "The Voice" launched its playoff round Tuesday night. All five of Blake Shelton's artists took the stage to perform a song of his or her choosing. At the end of the one-hour episode, Blake picked three of them to advance in the competition: Sisaundra Lewis, Audra McLaughlin and Jake Worthington.

Adam Levine, Shakira and Usher were on hand to critique each performance.

Here's a rundown of what happened:

Audra McLaughlin selected Martina McBride's "A Broken Wing." Shakira said it was a beautiful performance, one that was believable. Adam urged Audra to unleash the performer "beast" inside of her. Blake admitted he had no idea how he was going to decide which three of his artists should advance, because they're all talented.

Ryan Whyte Maloney sang "Second Chance," by Shinedown. Usher praised the way Ryan held the long notes, comparing his ability to that of Adam. Adam, who was flattered by Usher's comment, said Ryan's professional moments have overshadowed his rough edges. Blake said Ryan showed improved control.

Madilyn Paige went with Zedd's "Clarity." Usher, her former coach, said she's becoming more well-rounded as an artist. Shakira said Madilyn sang the verses in an understated manner, but was very active and powerful with the chorus. Blake said she has a distinct voice.

Jake Worthington picked "Anywhere with You," by Jake Owen, as a tribute to his girlfriend. Usher asked Jake what he thought of the performance. Jake confessed there were some pitch issues. Usher responded that if Jake doesn't believe in himself, no one will. Blake reiterated that he had a tough decision ahead of him.

Blake's final artist, Sisaundra Lewis, took on the Billy Joel classic "New York State of Mind." Usher was stunned by what he heard. Shakira asked Sisaundra, "Are you aware of the voice you have?" Adam added to the lovefest, though he felt it was jazzy before she hit the chorus. Blake said it is amazing what Sisaundra can do with a song.

Blake settled on Sisaundra, Audra and Jake, while saying goodbye to Ryan and Madilyn.

The playoffs continue next Monday night on NBC.
