The World According to Ryan Lochte
Some of the swimmer's most memorable moments from over the years.
— -- As local police in Brazil continue their investigation of Ryan Lochte and three of his swimming teammates over an alleged robbery, the 12-time medalist remains the center of media scrutiny.
But it's not just the holes or changes in Lochte's story that are raising eyebrows; it's the actual words the gold medalist used to describe the supposed incident.
Lochte had originally claimed that he, James Feigen, Jack Conger and Gunnar Bentz were robbed at gunpoint Sunday. He told NBC's "Today" show that he said "whatever" as a gun was pointed at his head.
Here's a look back at some of his boldest comments over the years.
1 - On the robbery he claims happened in Rio.
"They pulled out their guns, they told the other swimmers to get down on the ground -- they got down on the ground. I refused, I was like we didn't do anything wrong, so I'm not getting down on the ground," he told the "Today" show. "And then the guy pulled out his gun, he cocked it, put it to my forehead and he said, 'Get down,' and I put my hands up, I was like 'whatever.'"
2 - On his reality show.
Gawker posted a rundown of Lochte's best quotes from his short-lived reality show career dating back to 2013 on E!
"In fashion, I want that little edge, like that Lochte," he said.
When asked what is the "Lochte edge," he said, "I honestly have no idea."
3 - On creating his own words.
We have the "Lochterage," "Lochtenation" and of course his catch phrase, "Jeah!"
Glamour has an original clip showing the swimmer explaining how to properly use his word.
4 - On dating.
In 2013, Lochte spoke to People magazine and shared his outlook on meeting women, even when his mother's around. "It's just me, hanging out with my mom, and girls come up," he said.
He added, "It's not like I'm looking for a blonde or a brunette, light-skinned or dark-skinned. I feel like I give any girl a fighting chance."
His biggest turnoff?
A "bad kisser" and "if [women are] always depending on me to help them, or they're not independent."
5 - On his abs.
There's no quote needed.
6 - On biting his gold medal.
On "The Ellen Show" a few years back, he explained to "Friends" star Matthew Perry, "See, that's like the kind of tradition thing, you like bit into it to be like, 'Oh, it's real gold.'"
He had a bonus on "Ellen," about how his mom feels about him in his swimming gear.
"Every time I'm in my Speedo, she's like, 'Ryan just put some clothes on," he explained.
7 - On swimming awareness.
When asked by David Letterman on why do a reality show, Lochte said, "I want to bring swimming into everyone's living room. So, swimming awareness."
8 - On blondish brunettes.
When asked by Swimming World TV in 2012, "blonde or brunette?" he replied, "blondish brunette."
The follow-up question: "How much cash is in your wallet?"
"Probably a dollar," he said.
9 - On manhood.
"My philosophy is if you're a man at night, you have to be a man in the morning," he said in 2013 on Fox 29. "If I go out all night and I go dancing, some drinking, I still have a job to do."
