Yolanda Hadid Says She Was Blindsided by David Foster Divorce
The "Real Housewives" star said she didn't think it was "end of the road."
— -- Yolanda Hadid says she was just as shocked as her fans to learn that her marriage was over.
During an interview Tuesday on "Watch What Happens Live," the "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star admitted to host Andy Cohen that she was blindsided by the end of her marriage with David Foster.
"I didn't think that was the end of the road," Hadid said. "I would have hoped to wait until I got 100 percent well."
Hadid and Foster announced the end of their four-year marriage this past December. "Sadly we have decided to go our separate ways," the couple told People magazine at the time. "We've shared 9 beautiful and joyous years together. During that time we experienced love, friendship and the inevitable challenges that come with managing a marriage, careers, blended families and health issues."
Hadid later said her chronic Lyme disease played a role in the split.
In a preview for the upcoming "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" reunion, which Cohen aired Tuesday, Foster says, "You can't underestimate how much it takes for a man to take care of somebody that's sick all of the time. David didn't change; I'm the one that changed. And I guess this is the outcome of that."
She also defended her ex against criticism he received for appearing to leave while she was still sick.
"I don't think anybody should criticize that," she said.
For his part, Foster released a statement soon after their breakup announcement addressing the criticism.
"I have always had and continue to have the utmost respect and love for Yolanda, which is why it is so frustrating to see headlines questioning her chronic debilitating illness," he said in the statement to E! News.
"I have been by Yolanda's side over the past four years to the best of my ability as she battled with the complexities of her Lyme diagnosis. I am incredibly proud of Yolanda's determination and mission to find a cure, and how brave and open she has been by sharing her story in the hopes of changing the future for others."
