Anne Hathaway reveals she was '9th choice' for 'The Devil Wears Prada'
The actress dished the truth on "RuPaul's Drag Race."
Anne Hathaway's career hit new heights after starring alongside Meryl Streep in the 2006 hit movie, "Devil Wears Prada" -- but it turns out she wasn't the first, or even second, choice for the main role.
The 38-year-old actress appeared on the latest episode of "RuPaul's Drag Race" and when a contestant asked for a movie role she had to "fight tooth and nail for," the actress revealed she was actually the ninth choice to play Andrea "Andy" Sachs in the film.
"How much time do you have?" Hathaway replied. The Academy Award winner then unloaded some shocking information on the contestants, first baiting them in with, "I will give you some tea."
As the contestants leaned in curiously, she spilled, "I was the ninth choice for 'Devil Wears Prada.'"
The contestants reacted in complete shock, with Hathaway turning the memory into a moment of encouragement. "But I got it! Hang in there; never give up," she urged.
While the "Princess Diaries" star didn't mention who else was vying for the role, it was previously revealed that the studio originally wanted Rachel McAdams in the starring role, but she rejected it.
While Hathaway didn't score any nods for the movie, Streep -- who played the icy Miranda Priestly -- walked home with several awards, including a Golden Globe for best actress. Streep was also nominated for an Academy Award.
"The Devil Wears Prada," which also starred Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci, went onto become a box office smash and was one of the highest grossing films of 2006.
