Arya Stark's kill list on 'Game of Thrones': Who's safe and who's still at risk?

Plus theories on what will happen to the living characters.

April 23, 2019, 4:13 AM

In earlier seasons of "Game of Thrones," Arya Stark would recite a long hit list to herself at night before falling asleep.

The list, which included villains whom Arya vowed to kill, was actually mentioned on Sunday's second episode of "GOT's" final season, when The Hound asks Arya if Beric Dondarrion is still on it.

Here's who's dead, plus theories on the fate of the living.

The Hound

For murdering her friend, the butcher's boy.

His status:
The Hound aka Sandor Clegane is still with us today. In season eight, episode one, Arya was reunited with The Hound and in episode two, they share a drink and a friendlier-than-usual chat.

Theory:
There are highs and lows to the relationship between these two. The Hound can be somewhat of a decent guy. If the living wins the war against the dead, our theory is The Hound winds up siding with the Starks--should their enemies turn on them at King's Landing--and in turn, Arya will spare his life.

Cersei Lannister

Cersei stood beside her son, King Joffrey, who ordered the execution of Arya's father, Ned Stark.

Status:
Cersei is alive and currently queen of the Seven Kingdoms.

Theory:
Historically, Cersei never treats her enemies kindly. In other words, a quick or painless death is rarely in the cards. We predict that whomever survives the army of the dead convinces Arya to be on board with imprisoning Cersei to make an example out of her.

Ilyn Payne

For carrying out the execution of Ned Stark.

Status:
Apparently alive.

Theory:
It's possible that we won't see Ilyn again in the series and Arya won’t have her chance. If we do, perhaps The Hound makes the kill for her as a personal favor. After all, he knows who's on her list.

Polliver

"Maybe I'll pick my teeth with it." Polliver is on the list for stealing Arya's sword, "Needle," and for torturing and killing her friends.

Arya kills him using Needle.

Melisandre

Why: For trying to kill Gendry.

Status:
Dead. At the end of season 8, episode three, Melisandre removes her magical necklace and dies.

Theory:
We predict Melisandre is killed by wights after a sorcery battle.

For killing Arya's sword-fighting instructor, Syrio Forel.

The Mountain

For torturing her friends at Harrenhal.

Status:
Alive. He was resurrected after being poisoned by Oberyn Martell.

Theory:
It's hard to believe anybody can topple The Mountain, who is also The Hound's brother. Our theory is The Hound kills him -- not for Arya, but because of their tumultuous past.

Rorge

For torturing Arya's friends at Harrenhal and threatening to rape her.

Status:
Dead. Arya kills him with Needle after she and The Hound are attacked by Rorge's people.

Joffrey

At the end of season one, Joffrey ordered Ned Stark's execution. Arya was present in the audience.

Dead. Joffrey was poisoned by Olenna Martell at his own wedding.

Tywin Lannister

For partnering with the Freys to kill Starks at the Red Wedding.

Status:
Dead. While using the toilet, Tywin is shot with a crossbow by his son Tyrion, after Tyrion escapes from prison.

Beric Dondarrion

For selling her friend Gendry to Melisandre.

Status:
Dead. Beric is stabbed by a group of wights as he defends Winterfell during the war against the dead.

Theory:
In season eight, episode two, The Hound asks Arya if Beric is still on her kill list. She says he "was" for a short time. Since Gendry himself forgave Beric in season seven, we think Arya will spare his life.

Thoros of Myr
